It’s a week to go Brighton Gluggers!

November 6, 2009 by crushdesign

We have a few changes in the Brighton Glug  line up.
Unfortunely Anthony Burrill can’t make it due to family commitments but has promised us that he will be able to talk at the next Brighton Glug event. We do have a fantastic replacement by the name of Mr Bingo – the original Shoreditch beat busker and master of pens.

The wheels of steel will be managed by Hamish Makgill, Harry Kay and Paul Burgess
and on the live art front Holly Wales has now been replaced by Mark Taplin

We would like to say a big thank you to our sponsors for the evening Crunch who will be on hand to talk through how they can take all your accountancy worries away from all you freelancers and Barefoot for providing a complimentary tipple.

We have had an overwhelming response to the launch of this event and tickets just flown out of the door. Be sure to arrive early, because the the first 100 people through the door get a free drink.

Thanks to all that came down to ‘Glugski’ last week, it was a great success (again!)
We hope you’ll agree the venue made a nice change from the last few. We’re looking into finalising the details for the Christmas bash (again we’re looking at somewhere different, though probably lots more central and bigger). As soon as this is all sorted we’ll do a mailout with all the details.

Big shouts go to:

Dep @ PaintShop Studio for organising the event
The Russian Club Studios for hosting the event
Roll call of artists in no particular order as they’re all the bollocks!

Glugski at the Russian Club Studios – 29.10.09 (Updated)

October 12, 2009 by Nick Clement

glugski

After 4 brilliant events at the Queen Of Hoxton, we thought it was time for a bit of a change and a move. So for this one off smaller scale event (on Thursday 29th October) we’ve gone a bit further out and a bit more underground, to the very cool Russian Club Studios, 340-344 Basement Kingsland Road London. E8 4DA [gMap].

Apologies straight away, that this is a bit further out (Kingsland Rd, in East London) and also that the capacity is much smaller but we wanted to do something a bit more boutique. After selling out the Queen of Hoxton event (700 people) we know this 300 capacity venue is going to mean some people can’t come along so get your rsvp’s in fast to guarantee a place. Please note: we’re just charging £3 on the door for this, to cover material costs etc.

RSVP for free here now.
Please note RSVP’ing on facebook does not confirm your name on the list, it needs to be through meetup!

Glugsky – Live Art / Graffiti Event details

Transforming the space and opening the door to the closed world of London graffiti, Paint Shop Studio will be taking over two rooms, creating a unique, collective piece created by Dep, Bonzai, Solo One, Tizer and Love Pusher. Solo One will also be talking about the art of freehand letterforms alongside a huge blackboard should anyone feel inspired…

http://www.paintshopstudio.com

We are also excited to welcome Ian Stevenson and John Slade to Glug, two illustrators whose intoxicating work will be spilling over the walls of our third room space.

http://www.john-slade.co.uk
http://www.ilikedrawing.co.uk

Doors open from 6pm, we have DJ Shucks playing all night and there’s a bar created for us by the lovely people at the Russian Club serving beer, wine, and juice… As before our sponsors Digital Gurus will be buying some free booze again so get there early for some free tokens.

In other news we’ll also be announcing details of our much bigger Christmas event soon which we’re partnering with charity Barnados on. This will be a ticket only event and probably much larger format again.

Finally just a quick note of thanks to Laura & Gemma for arranging this whole event.
It’s been great to have a break on these.

Cheers!
Nick and Ian.

Hi,

We just wanted to say a massive thanks to everyone who came down to our event last Thursday. Not only was it one of the most heavily attended events we’ve run so far but also one of the best too.

Thanks also to everyone who helped us to make it happen, the whole Studio Output team for their Lyrical Theatre and talks, Norm and his t-shirt printing, Leigh ‘The Cake lady’, Macaulay Sinclair, Richard Paul, Bob London, Adobe and also our speakers Sanky, Merlin, Mandy GDR etc. We’ll post any films and pictures up on the blog asap, click the pic to jump to Flickr for the latest pics, thanks for the photography Romain Kedochim – check out his work here.

We hope you all enjoyed it, please give feedback on the meetup if you can.

Thanks

September 23, 2009 by Nick Clement

glug_trucker_hat-p148400491989889128uh2y_400

Hello, it’s Glug tomorrow…

..and it’s looking like being one of the best yet. We’ve sold 547 tickets already and only 153 remain. Please be aware once these sell out we will not be taking money on the door, so once these are gone that’s it! :-)

Tickets: www.meetup.com/gluglondon
Venue: www.thequeenofhoxton.co.uk | gMap

For those of you able to come, here’s some important information about the event which you’ll need to read. Some details have changed etc.

1. Try and get there early

Due to the fact the nights are closing in a bit (it’s now dark at 7.30), the roof will only be open till just before 8pm. Also we’ve kindly had lots of donations and sponsorship bits we’re giving to early attendees. These include:

Free glass of bubbly to the first 200 people
Free food – provided by our sponsor Digital Gurus
More free drinks vouchers – thanks to London Digital Week!

Doors open at 6pm (event finishes at 2am)

2. Talks etc.

In the past people have said the talks have been too late on, this has partly been due to us not wanting to spoil peoples fun on the roof terrace. However because of darkening nights these will now be much earlier. Our first talk / demo by Adobe starts in the basement at 7.30pm and includes a Sneak preview of the next version of Flash Professional & Flash Catalyst.

In fact here’s the line up for the basement:

7.30 – 7.50 Adobe http://www.adobe.com/
8.00 Introduction
8.10 Sanky D&AD vice president http://www.allofus.com/
8.30 Merlin http://www.merlinnation.com/
8.50 Studio Output http://www.studio-output.com/
9.10 GDR http://www.gdruk.com/

10.15 Kids Love Lies http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tYD4HEx60c&feature=related

3. Other features

In typical Glug style we’re trying to keep things a bit low key so we hope you’ll dip in and out of things as you please. As such lots of things are running at the same time, so here’s a list of other bits you might enjoy:

Ground floor
Studio Output with Nick Andrews
We’ll be shooting people throughout the night, asking for your favourite song lyrics and creating illustrations on the fly as part of our live Lyrical Theatre project.
http://www.studio-output.com/

T-shirt screen printing by Waste Yourself
We’ll be printing 7 ltd edition t-shirts at the event. These can be purchased for £10 each in various sizes or you can also bring a favourite t-shirt and have this printed on for £5. We’ll be putting some of these on the blog today as a bit of a taster…

Cup Cakes
Buy them, eat them! :-)

4. Food & Drink

Food will be available from the ground floor from 5pm -7pm. We’re giving away 100 of these to early birds but you can also buy these for £5. Here’s what it says on the menu ‘Delicious bowls of warming chilli prepared with fresh ingredients and served with steamed rice plus a topping of grated cheddar cheese and spicy jalapenos. Choose between a meat and a veggie option’

Drinks are available from the main and basement bars only. Obviously you can take both food and drink upstairs to the roof till it closes.

5. Goodie Bags

You can see these on the blog, they look great.
http://gluglondon.wordpress.com/
As we’ve now sold over 500 tickets we have the names of everyone, who’s entitled to get one of these. You can collect them from the door as you come in.

6. Music

Breakin Bread will be on the decks from 8.30pm in the ground floor, they’ve also kindly given us a mix cd for every goodie bag. In the basement at 10.15 (ish) Kids Love lies will be performing.

7. Entry & Guestlist

If your on the guest list or have purchases a ticket we will have your name on the door, however please print out a reference number if possible. From 9pm onwards we’ll hand this over to the friendly bouncers to sort…

NB: Once this sells out we won’t be letting anyone else in on the door as it will get too busy and cramped. So get your ticket now, there are only 153 places left..

I think that’s everything, sorry to be so formal. Obviously we’ll also have some information up on posters around the venue too. We’re looking forward to it, I hope you are too!

With less than 2 weeks to go till our September event tickets are going fast. But first some exciting news relating to this event: Digital Gurus – Recruitment Specialists are Glug London’s New sponsor for 2009 / 2010. We’re happy to announce Digital Gurus have signed up to sponsor Glug London for the next 6 events. As with all sponsorship donations we’ll be giving this straight back to you so for the September event this means free BBQ tokens for the first 100 people to arrive !

Digital Gurus – Recruitment Specialists & London Digital Week.
Not only is Glug London now part of London Digital Week lineup for this year, but they’ve kindly offered to sponsor this event with a contribution to put behind the bar. Again we’ll be handing these drinks tokens out to early attendees but this should cover a free drink for the first 300 people! — Additional Ltd edition goodie bags = More freebies.

We’re also increasing the number of tote goodie bags to 500 now, as we’ve had so many people buy tickets and request these. As such the first 500 people to buy tickets will all get one of these. All of which means there are 196 left, so hurry up and buy those tickets now.

Adobe Flash CS4 Giveaway
In addition to a sneak preview of Flash Professional & Flash Catalyst (at the event), Adobe have kindly offered us a free copy of CS4 to giveaway! Once all the tickets are gone, we’ll be picking a ticket number at random and then announcing this on the meetup page / blog.

T-shirts by Waste Yourself
Screen printed t-shirts will be available to buy at the event (7 special designs to choose from!). You can purchase these for £10, or pay £5 to get one of your own tshirts printed there and then.
NB: You might want to bring a spare with you, unless you fancy walking round topless for an hour while your t-shirt dries.

I think that’s it for now, it’s shaping up to be one of our best events so far, with lots of fun features and giveaways for all. Glug London Thursdy 24th September = Free BBQ, Free Booze & for one lucky Glugger a free copy of Flash CS4.

Thanks Ian & Nick

PS. We’ve had a few people mention the PayPal RSVP section is a bit confusing as it keeps displaying the price in dollars when it should be GBP £’s. Please ignore this, it will charge you in GBP £’s and your order will be processed. We’ve contacted meetup.com about this to rectify the fault. RSVP & Tickets here.
