HAPPY NEW YEAR GLUGGERS.

If January is your detox month then you will be pleased to hear that Brighton Glug is returning in February, just in time to throw the New Year resolutions on the fire and get stuck into some more Creative Notworking.

Crush & Agency Rush have again joined forces with Studio Output and Made Studio to bring you Brighton Glug 2: Welcome to the New Decade

We have a great line up of creatives already confirmed and we hope to be adding more in the coming weeks. We will be charging £4 entry through the Meetup Group. The last event sold out very quickly, so be sure to register and pay to guarantee your name on the door.

Here’s what to expect:

SPEAKERS IN THE PIT

Anthony Burrill
As promised Anthony Burrill will be talking  about recent projects including exhibitions in London, Paris, Los Angeles and Lisbon, work with fashion designer Jenny Packham and French electro band Acid Washed.

Noma Barr
Born in Israel in 1973, Noma Bar studied graphic design and typography at the Jerusalem Academy of Art & Design. He has been based in London since 2001. In 2003, Barr received his first national magazine commission from Time Out London, and since then he has worked for an array of media clients, including the BBC, Random House, The Observer, The Economist and Wallpaper.

Studio Output
The chaps who started Glug in London and Nottingham talk us through some of their recent projects including work for Playstation, Ministry of Sound and Radio One.

Merlin Nation
Hailing From Brighton Merlin Nation is an independent director who used to work at Digit and UpTheResolution. He will be talking through some of his recent work.

ANIMATION

Modern Toss
Described as ‘Rude, crude and unpublishable’ Modern Toss bring you Animation Shorts in the main room.

LIVE ART

Getting messy with the pens and paints this month we have:

Our homebrew is shaping up nicely for the Xmas period – Glug Beer [Source]

Big thanks to all of you that came last week. I hope everyone had a great time and enjoyed the auction, bands and event in general. We’re really pleased with the turnout and it’s fantastic how we managed to raise so much money for Barnados, so thanks so much as it’s ALL down to you guys!

The auction and money from tickets exceeded our expectations and we’re really happy to have raised £4604 in total.

Also big thanks to the Sotheby’s, DAHRA, Barnados, the bands, Glug crew, Mcfaul Studio – for buying a load of dolls, the talk and glugging the bar dry. Also huge ’spect to Saif and our sponsors at Digital Gurus, who came along gave away a load of free drink and even managed to bag themselves 3 Dolls spending some serious ‘munny’ (ho, ho, ho!) along the way. They wanted to wish everyone an awesome festive period and if you are looking for work in the New Year or for some talented people to join your team, drop the guys a line, I’m sure they would be more than happy to help!

We’ll obviously let you know about events in 2010, but may be taking a bit of a break in January to enjoy some time off. As always post your feedback on the meetup and let us know what you’d like improving / changing about the events.

Merry Christmas, we’re very pleased to announce details of our Glug Christmas Party.

This could be our BEST GLUG YET! There’s some amazing talent, a super cool venue and some interesting changes to the format. ‘Glug London presents – SHOW ME THE MUNNY’ a Christmas Special in association with DAHRA (Designers Against Human Rights Abuse)

On Tuesday the 15th of December, we take over the very cool and newly opened BOOK CLUB, 100-106 Leonard Street, Shoreditch, London. EC2A 4RH. From 6pm, we’ll be welcoming you with mulled wine, minced pies and trendy Christmas carols outside in the street. Plus lots of very naff/nice Christmas decor.

THE TALKS

At 7.30pm we’ll be starting proceedings with a series of short Pecha Kucha style talks. Full lineup to be confirmed but our first speaker is design legend:

THE AUCTION

Then from 8pm we’ll be holding a very special charity auction upstairs auctioning off customised Munny Dolls. The dolls have been customised on the theme of Play and Creativity by:

Graphic Design - Paul Scher (Pentagram), Joe Shouldice (Sagmeister Inc), Andy Altmann (Why Not Associates), Michael C. Place (Build), Studio Output, ILoveDust, Si Scott, Alberto Cerriteño, Gary Fernandez & Ollie Johns.

Product Design - 2Creatives, Anthony Dickens Studio, Forpeople, Jam Design, Max Lamb, Patrick Niall, Octo Design, Prajay Parmar, Yiannis Proestos & Rolf Sachs Fun c’tion & 10 students from Westminster school of Art.

Auction rules will be announced nearer the time, but everyone can get involved, help raise some money for a good cause and possibly walk away with a fantastic one off design piece. We’ll be showcasing the dolls on the blog and on Form55 before the event. We’ve even managed to get a Sotheby’s auctioneer to liven up the proceedings!

FRAMED PRINTS

A2 & A1 Framed prints will be available to buy on the night and displayed throughout the venue created by some of the artists listed above. Again we’ll be teasing these prints out via the blog and through various online press.

MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT

Then from 8.30 we’ll have various bands and live music performing upstairs and also we welcome back DJ Jsquared from the Breakin Bread show downstairs. There’s also ping pong and pool.

FOOD & DRINK

Thanks to our friends at Digital Gurus, we’ll be giving away 100 free drinks tokens for those early birds. The bar is open until 12pm. We’ll also be putting on a free Christmas finger buffet for you, sausage on sticks, chicken dippers, cheese and pineapple.

On behalf of everyone at Crush ,  Agency Rush , Studio Output and Made Studio we just wanted to give everyone who came to the event a massive thank you for making Glug Brighton brilliant on Friday night. It felt like a real celebration of top notch creativity! We can see from the Meetup page that some extremely brilliantly talented people turned up for the event. We want you lot to be part of the next one which we hope to hold in January. Please get in touch if you have any ideas or want to help out.

There were a couple of comments that the music was too loud. I’m afraid that’s just the way we roll – We’re NOT WORKING. You lot drank the bar dry, so we will make sure that next time we have more beer (!) and we have a better bar system in place to keep the queuing to a minimum.

We hope a few of you managed to catch some of the talks. Again sorry Antony Burrill couldn’t make it but we hope you agree with us that Mr Bingo really rocked it!

We will be posting pics and video of the event this week – if you have any pics we would love to see them too.
